12 Essentials is an exhibition by twelve young emerging designers. By studying the basic needs of human life they have designed twelve different objects which respond to our most deep desires.

Each designer is going to exhibit their own vision of an essential piece of what’s important for a human to feel and experience in their environment. For example a bed doesn’t only represent sleep and rest, it also gives a feeling of safety and calmness. It’s a nest in which you can escape from the world.

The designers’ goal is to awake emotions and thoughts of how people make decisions and get people to think of their own relationship with objects. What are the most precious things you own and how they make you feel?

The designers are final year students from Lahti Institute of Design, Finland. The 12 Essentials exhibition is their first international group exhibition and starting point for their future.

Scandinavian background with it’s simplicity and functionality can be seen in their designs, but more than hanging on the past, they want to look to the future and create new classics for the next generation.
